About The Site

Having come toward the end of my degree, and having 1-2 years of photographs lounging around taking up disk space, I figured it was a good time to put my life on the internet for display- and so here it is! It would have been interesting if I’d continued into Academia to put papers and the like on it too, but after COVID, a messy family situation, and five years of it, that likely won’t happen 😉

About Me

I’m an Astrophys graduate

Academically, my roots lies firmly in Computational Astrophysics. All the code I’ve produced (worthwhile, at least) can be viewed on my GitHub repository, here. I can code in Python & Julia, I’m fluent with $\LaTeX$, and have elementary experience dealing with C/C++.

I’ve coded with relation to the study of rolling scalar fields in modelling LCDM; raw FITS data to characterising stellar populations; an MSc relating to data-driven hierarchical clustering techniques applied to kinematic stellar data in the Milky Way. There’s also a whole bunch of fun codes related to hydrodynamic simulations, numerical PDE solving, MCMC techniques, and much more!

Currently I work as an Imaging Geoscientist with Viridien.

I’m an amateur photographer

I love Landscape, and I love to hike to get to it. I also savour the opportunity (where possible) for the odd jaunt of Astrophotography, for which I own a full-spectrum modified D5300, Star Adventurer, and IDAS LPS-D2 filter! Since leaving Scotland my options have been limited, but we’ll see when I’ll get the chance to use the equipment again 🙂

So far I’ve one hardback book printed, and one softback zine, too. My photographic library includes pictures from across Scotland, Madeira, and Japan. Currently in progress is a hardback on my trips to Madeira, and in the future I hope to make many more photobooks based on my hikes and experiences ^_^

Some other miscellanies…

I love calligraphy, have a modest set of fountain pens and inks, and also enjoy working on my electrical engineering project “vespertilio.” I hope in the future to have a complete system for it, but at the moment it’s very much in the prototyping stage. It does work though!

Harlaw Reservoir at sunrise, shot by a friend using my FS-modified D5300.
The clear night atop Beinn Narnain- it may have been the end of summer but it was bloody cold up there!
Spiffy calligraphy ;). Though I’m a bit rusty at it nowadays I still bust it out for the Christmas Cards!
