Hi again! Looks like this page has been a bit… well, to put it bluntly, stagnant, for a while. Stagnant doesn’t really do it justice- I think the most whimsical synonym for “stagnant” I could conjure right now would be exanimate or perhaps, sordidly inanimate.
There’s a good reason for it though! Moving back home to Manchester put me back into a rather sorry mental state, and I lost the motivation to keep updating this site. But hey, I moved out a long time ago, got a job, and since have been a bit better! Until I moved in with a live-in landlady and things have since also been a bit… well, it’s very anxiety inducing to live here- it feels as though I’m domineered over and have little control. But that’s life… I’ll be more cautious with picking a place to live next time. My dad committing suicide, my childhood best boy pet being put down alone, and my mom getting an unfortunate diagnosis, didn’t help either 🙁
At least I’m blessed with great colleagues, an even greater girlfriend, a slightly less great but still great place to work, and one great remaining parent (who causes a lot of stress to me, but yeah that’s life.)
Anyway, enough depressing speak. The reason for this post: I anticipate moving the website to a new host at some point in the near future- by all means, by the end of December 2024 when my Bluehost hosting expires. Why? Well, Bluehost want £300 to renew for 3 years- most other hosts for a similar website (I get barely any visitors, and don’t take too much storage) want about £150. So yeah, moving hosts. I’m not spending £300 for a site that gets a handful of visitors yearly! 😀 There may be some downtime on the site as a result while I meander through the labyrinthine process of migrating. UPDATE! Host move complete, I took a four-year plan with Hostinger and renewed my domain until the next presidency. Woot hoot.
While I’m here, it’s probably worth noting down the photographic plans! My Lunar Solo tent has had its last jaunt, and with that I’ll be fishing up a new tent at some point in early 2025 for my solo Spring/Summer/Autumn trips. While I still have two visits to Madeira in 2024, 2025 will be full of photographic trips…
- At least 4-5 weeks in Scotland
- Finland in March/April for 2 weeks
- Madeira at some other point in the year for 1 week
The exact plan for Scotland is still up in the air- I’m definitely going to go for 2-3 week-long “expedition style” trips… I’ll be joining a gym once I’m back from Madeira in a few weeks to get a bit more in shape for those, as the 8-day without re-supply in September definitely showed that my body isn’t the best for long distance/altitude gains over sustained days. I need more muscle on the upper body (my legs are fine, though :P.) There’re a few spots I definitely want to visit in 2025, though!
