Rather random title, as per the usual, but what can I say: this is a fairly random post, simply to vent out that I’ve finally finished the second checkpoint for MVis (and with it, released a pythonic numba-accelerated rendition of the SIRS Model.) I must add that the model uses the Ising near-neighbours method- not the Game of Life near-neighbours method. Shame, I know, but that’s life. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While released, I’m afraid there won’t be any fancy demonstration of it- it really is a very basic thing and frankly I’m not an epidemiologist and don’t know how to make sense of it, outside of what I was taught by the notes (which all-in-all aren’t that extensive to begin with, thankfully- saves time.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from finishing that, I saw the god damn Aurora Borealis for the first time! Or should I say, my camera saw it- I misinterpreted it as dark current and wiped most of the images away. My D780 has a rather nasty dark-current problem, and it requires a hefty number of darks to correct for it in the field (or some fairly crisp effort in Lightroom.) Some images survived the chop though- the focussing images I use to focus in the dark, taken at ISO 3200 for 30 seconds. <\/em>Yeah, I know- sad. Here’s the only “decent” one I got- <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll admit- it took a lot<\/em> of processing to get that image. Masking the noise in the sky manually in photoshop and leveraging dust\/scratches and noise reduction, Topaz DeNoise, fixing the dark current that the camera slopped out on the side… I really need to get that checked out, if I’m being honest- such a large amount of dark ain’t right. Needless to say, I’m quite disappointed I didn’t get more shots- even moreso tonight, since yesterday had a magnificent showing of the aurora and I was too busy programming for my MSc project (which, by the way, is due in 2 weeks- yikes.<\/em>) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyhow, I had a grand time at Loch Ossian for the 2.5 days I was there: the hostel is fantastic, the hills majestic, and the loch itself an absolute treat- the photographs will be edited in due time, but I’ll leave you this one as a parting gift. Tata and Farewell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
